Sagrada Familia

The Sagrada Familia is the worldwide symbol of Barcelona and the most famous production of Gaudí. He dedicated his life to carrying out this ambitious work, which due to his sudden death was left unfinished. Gaudi became so obsessed with the church that he established his home on-site.

You can make the most of your visit to the Sagrada Familia with a guided visit. It includes a route with an audio guide that explains the facades and interior of the basilica, as well as the museum and the school designed by Gaudí. This is an ideal option for those who prefer to explore the Sagrada Familia on their own.

Güell Park

The Güell Park is an enormous garden formed by Antonio Gaudí's architectural elements. The park owes his name to Eusebi Güell, a businessman who was in love with Gaudí's works and that proposed this construction to him. At first, it was going to be a luxury residential complex, but after some time, a very special park was constructed. It was opened in 1922 and, since then, it is one of the main tourism points, declared Heritage of the Humanity by the UNESCO in 1984. The Parque Güell is full of wavy forms, columns that seem to be trees, figures of animals and other geometric forms. Most of the surfaces are decorated with mosaics, made up with bits of colourful ceramics.

Fill up on tapas, pintxos and vermouth

Pintxos, (the words used in Basque to mention bite-sized goodies served on a piece of bread) are a culinary trend in Barcelona. One of the best places to taste a pintxo is Euskal Etxea, where you can eat some ham empanadillas, a pintxos with chicken and saffron mayonnaise, or a mini-brochette of pork.

If you prefer tasting a tapa, you have more options but you should not forget the patatas bravas, fried potatoes with a spicy tomato sauce. At the weekend (or when you're on holiday) you should also go for a bar and ask for some vermouth with a bite to eat.

Going for a walk around the city

Barcelona is a big and spacious city, but it's the perfect size to go on foot and know its corners. Start walking to visit some of the most impressive buildings and parks, such as the Parc de la Ciutadella, the Parc de Joan Miró, and the Montjuïc castle. You can take the bus or the underground to get to anywhere!
